TCP/IP Setting Manual

In this section, you are assumed have correctly identified the IP address for the Ulearn System Server. Therefore, you must produce a manual on how to configure the IP address on the server. You can use any operating system to demonstrate this task. The explanation should be supported with the screenshot and appropriate explanation.

The following is a demonstration of how we determined the IP address for the Ulearn System Server using Windows 10.

1) Firstly, go to the search button and search Control Panel

      2) Click open Control Panel and page as shown below will appear. Next, find Network and Sharing Centre from this page

    3) Then, click Network and Sharing Centre from the page above. After click open the Network and Sharing Centre, list of internet connection will appear. Ethernet and Wi-Fi both can be use in this project. In this example, we are using Wi-Fi connection using hotspot from smartphone. Go to connection and click on WiFi 2 (Huawei Nova 3i).

4) Popup WiFi 2 status will appear as below. Click Properties button. 

     5) WiFi 2 Properties will appear as blow. Next, double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

      6) Popup Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties will appear. Click on General and here we will configure the IP address. Normally DHCP server will use in this page and the IP address will be obtained automatically.

    7) To configure the IP address, we must change the Obtain an IP address automatically to Use the following IP address. After that, fill in the IP address field with the IP address that we got from Question 2 Subnetting Calculation. The IP address is 172.24.36.5 which is from Class B. 

    8) Because the IP address is 172.24.36.5 so, the subnet mask will be 255.255.0.0.

     9) The default gateway acts as a bridge between the local network and the internet. The host address is usually same as the IP address, but with a different number in the fourth octet, which is always 1. So, the default gateway will be 172.24.36.1.

     10) Next, for the DNS server, we must change the setting as the IP address. We must change Obtained DNS server address automatically to Use the following DNS server addresses. For preferred DNS server, we will use same as Default gateway address. 

    11) For the Alternative DNS server, we will use the Google DNS server which is 8.8.8.8.

        

12) After finish complete all the field, click the Validate settings upon exit checkbox. Then, click OK button.

     13) On the  WiFi 2 Properties popup, click OK button. 

 14) Following that, a Windows Network Diagnostic popup box will appear to check for any issues with the new IP address configuration. If there is no issue, click the Close button.

    15) Lastly, test the Internet Connection again to see if it is successful or not. If can connect to the Internet, configuration of IP address is successful as shown below.
